Proponents of ASMR say they feel a tingling sensation in their scalp and down their spine that helps them feel relaxed. While research is sparse on the calming effects of ASMR, it might be worth exploring to find out if you feel the blissful sensation (let us know!).
Citrus, lavender, ylang-ylang: There’s a reason why these scents and others can have a noticeable impact on our mood, energy, and overall well-being. Aromatherapy has been used for therapeutic purposes since ancient times. Even now, some studies have linked it to improved sleep, reduced depression, and improved quality of life for people with chronic conditions. Each essential oil is typically aligned with treating a specific ailment. Think about what you need to address, and experiment with different delivery methods, such as an essential oil diffuser, bath salts, infused body oil, compress, or face mask.
It may seem like the current craze over crystals came out of nowhere, but crystals have long been used in ancient energy healing rituals to summon positive energy and rid negative vibes. Similar to essential oils, different crystals can tap into different energies and healing. Consider what you are looking to treat and find a crystal to pair with that need. When you find the crystal that’s right for you, you can wear it as a piece of jewelry, carry it in your pocket or purse, or place it somewhere in your home.
If you want to take a more physical and research-based approach to energy healing, acupuncture might be right for you. Studies have shown that acupuncture can help improve back and neck pain, joint pain, headaches, and more. The thin needles work to stimulate specific areas of the body to reduce pain. Everyone’s experience with—and response to—acupuncture may be different, but one thing’s for certain: Find a licensed acupuncturist to make sure you’re being treated by a professional.
Used for thousands of years in Chinese medicine, qigong is all about slow movements, concentration, and breathing exercises to assist with balancing your energy. The nature of qigong’s slow and steady movement is known to help to relieve stress, support respiratory health, and boost immunity, research shows. Many people see it as an opportunity to be more present, mindful, and centered. Try taking a class!
Reiki is another energy healing practice designed to connect your mind, body, and spirit. What happens in a reiki session? A licensed practitioner places their hands on or above your body, stimulating your body’s natural healing process. Since this practice entails you laying still and quiet in a dimly lit or dark room while the practitioner works, patients often feel relaxed and calm afterward. While there have been a number of smaller studies on potential benefits of reiki as treatment for pain or disease, more research is needed. However, due to its non-invasive nature, it might still be worth a try.
You read that correctly: A sound bath uses audible vibrations and calming noises to promote spiritual cleansing and energy healing. Think of it like a meditation session, where the goal is to leave feeling relaxed and recharge (cultures have been doing it for thousands of years). You can find local sound bath sessions both in groups, private classes, and online, so opt for whatever feels most comfortable for you.
Similar to qigong, Tai Chi is a gentle exercise and meditation that promotes energy healing of the mind, body, and spirit. The movements are low-impact and slow and often named after animals and their positions or poses. Each movement helps to open the body and relax muscles, allowing you to focus on mindfulness and tuning into your body. Tai Chi is also a good option for those of different abilities, as it can be done standing or sitting and moving just the body parts that are able.
